The Covid 19-22 experience has certainly forced all of us to take stock of our lives and reach out to our nearest and dearest.

WhiteSlashZA is building collections and collectives, diversifying in unexpected ways to reach varying target markets.
WhiteSlashZa is primarily a luxury leisurewear brand and thanks it’s marketing team, investors, stockists , clients and insurers for great support.
Be selfish with your heart, because if you give it to everyone, it has no value.

WhiteSlashZa has had a very busy and challenging year in Cape Town, South Africa.
Amongst seeking suitable boutiques to stock my range of comfortable, luxurious knitwear, to sourcing inspirational new designs as well as dealing with a multitude of hackers who have sought to clone my designs in cheaper copies.
On the one hand, it could have been very demoralizing, and on the second hand, an immense compliment to WhiteSlashZa’s design and thinking.
Here at WhiteSlashZa, I aim to provide an excellent service, on time with a beautiful product that is made for life.
Prices at WhiteSlashZa vary from R80 ZAR through to R2000 ZAR, depending on the product and time that go into the labour.
Most clients don’t even realise the cost, time and effort it takes to source the exact colour and/ or texture required for the garment, accessory or product.
Bear in mind that when you go to the hairdresser for a wash and blow, you are spending your money largely on the labour cost.
Our greatest game, when she was just a little girl, was playing Royal tea parties.
I would phone her from a toy phone, imitating Queen Elizabeth, saying, I am having a Royal tea party, and would be delighted if you would join me, Tayla.
This had Tayla in fits of laughter and little did I know then, that my family is actually of Royal Jewish descent.
So happy birthday beautiful angel pudding Tayla Ment, you can join my Royal tea party every day.MWAH
When considering what type of products I was going to create, I thought to myself, this is going to be “art in progress” because I had no idea what I was capable of.
To be perfectly honest, I never ever learned how to hold knitting needles properly and my knitting is basically learnt from a Ladybird “How to knit ” book and internet tutorials plus a mass of imagination and listening to what people want.
My initial plan was to focus on South African knitted products and yarn and to create a proudly South African brand of comfortable, classic modern luxury items with a dash of fun.
For some odd reason, I have been criticised as catering to “narcissism”.
I find it rather laughable on account that it is my business and my skills and my labour and I have the right to determine what kind of business I run.
Did anyone call Ralph Lauren, Hugo Boss, Zuhair Morad, Gucci, Ellie Saab and the likes as “narcissists”? No, they just followed and follow their passion and enjoyment to create beautiful things that people want to buy and wear.
Do people question the raison d’etre of the baker of bread, the potter, the sushi artist, the accountant, the lawyer, or the milkman? No, they just are. God has given each and every one of us useful talents and skills that just need to be used.
So what right indeed to people have to insist that every business should carry a “mission” or a “purpose” ?
Many businesses today , once they are established, support non profit organisations that benefit those in need. But in deed, it has become an unnecessary pressure to force people to give charity just to compete with their neighbours and/or to feed gossip mongers with news that the company also does good in giving back to the less fortunate.
Charity to the less fortunate is not a forced situation. One gives if one is able to give and one wants to give. Giving charity just to endorse a curriculum vitae or a business website has become a norm rather than an act of voluntary kindness and it feeds a sense of entitlement among those that are unable to create anything worthwhile for themselves for it is indeed a shame that certain people become so dependent on charity that they fail to fuel themselves or feed their own education.
There are people that are purpose driven and there are people who run businesses in areas of their enjoyment that fulfill man’s primal need to consume and enjoy. Neither is wrong and both are right.
Personally I gain enormous satisfaction in learning new knitting skills and styles and seeing the enjoyment of my clients faces with a garment of carefully planned work with the intent of making life more beautiful.

Having travelled abroad through France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Egypt, Israel, South Africa and Jordan after and before studying at University , as a South African, I am often gobsmacked at the magnificence of South Africa and its vistas, beaches , valleys and mountains which are breath takingly beautiful and rate as my most beautiful country in the world.
WhiteslashZA is inspired by colour mixes from the beauty of natural objects in every day life. The natural beauty of South Africa is God given magic and a thing of beauty is a joy forever.
The Palette of WhiteslashZA is modified every season and has yet to establish a standard palette range, although Gold and Bronze remain my personal favourites and always establish themselves in my ranges.
Of all the most exquisite flowers native to South Africa, I most enjoy the variety of the Proteas , the blushing bride being most gentle on the senses and the Strelitzia Reginae (Queen Strelitzia ) being the most dramatic

“Hearken thou now to the blessing that shall come upon thee, if thou wilt do the Will of God. Thou shalt be blessed in all thy ways, blessed shalt thou be in the city, blessed shalt thou be in the field, blessed shalt thou be in thy house, blessed shalt thou be outside it, and blessed shall be the fruit of thy belly. And those who were gathered together said, Amen. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy land. Amen. Blessed shall be the fountains of thy waters. Amen. Blessed shall be the fruit that thou hast planted. Amen. Blessed shall be thy cattle-runs and the flocks of thy sheep. Amen. Blessed shall be thy granaries and thy barns. Amen. Blessed shalt thou be in thy coming in. Amen. Blessed shalt thou be in thy going forth. Amen.
“And God shall bring to thee thine enemies who have risen up against thee, and they shall be trodden small beneath thy feet. Amen. And God shall send His blessing on thy houses and on everything to which thou hast put thine hand. Amen. And God shall multiply for thee good things, namely, children of thy body, produce of thy land, and births among thy flocks and herds. Amen. And in the land which He swore [to give to] thy fathers, He will give thee according to the days of heaven. Amen. And God shall open for thee the storehouse of the blessing of the heavens, and He shall give thee blessed rain, and shall bless the fruit of thy labour. Amen. Thou shalt lend unto many peoples, but thou shalt not borrow. Amen. Thou shalt rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over thee. Amen. And God shall set thee at the head
and not at the tail, and thou shalt be at the top and not at the bottom. Amen. And thou shalt gather together of every blessing of the land for thy flocks and herds, and thou shalt take the spoil of the nations for thine army, and they shall bow down to thee to the face of the earth, to thy sovereignty, because of the greatness of thy glory. Thine honour shall rise up like the cedar, and like the Morning Star, the brilliance of thy glory shall be before all the nations of the earth, and before every tribe of thy people Israel.
“For God shall be with thee in all thy ways, and He will perform thy will in everything that thou determinest. And thou shalt inherit the countries of thine enemy, and the greatness of thy people shall be praised because of the greatness of thine awesomeness, and because of the multitude of thy soldiers. And all those who do not perform the Will of God will fear thee because thou dost do His Will, and dost serve Him, and therefore He will give thee great majesty in the sight of those who see thee. Their hearts shall tremble before the bridle of thy horses, and the quiver of thy bow, and the glitter of thy shield, and they shall bow down to the face of the earth, for their hearts shall be terrified at the sight of thy majesty. And when those who are in the mountains see thee afar off they shall come down to the plain, and those who are on the seas and in the deep waters shall come forth, so that the Lord may bring them into thy hand, because they have transgressed the command of God. And thou, when thou doest His Will, shalt receive from Him everything for which thou hast asked; for if thou lowest Him He will love thee, and if thou keepest His commandment He will grant thee the petition of thy heart, and everything that thou seekest thou shalt receive from Him. For He is the Good One to the good, and the Compassionate to the compassionate, and He doeth the will of those who fear Him, and He giveth a reward to those who wait patiently
for Him. Be patient in respect of wrath, and at the end He will make thee to rejoice; love righteousness and He will make life to blossom for thee. Be a good man to the good, and a reprover of sinners. And put aside the wickedness of the evil man by rebuking and correcting him, and condemn and disgrace the evil man who doeth violence to his neighbour in the court of law. And do justice to the poor man and to the orphans, and release them from the hand of him that doeth them wrong. And deliver him that is forsaken and the man who is in misery, and release him from the hand of him that causeth him to suffer. Judge not with partiality, and have no respect of persons, but judge righteously. When thou undertakest to judge, love not gifts (i.e., bribes) and accept not persons. And admonish thy governors (or, judges) that they be free from the taking of gifts, and that they accept not the persons of their friends, or of their enemies, or of rich or poor, in giving judgment; and they shall surely judge their neighbours in righteousness, and with a just judgment.
Thank you to Petrel41 for nominating my blog for the Real Neat Blog award on 18 January 2020.
I started my blog about 2 months ago as I was looking for an avenue to promote my knitted products after registering my business in 2018 here in Cape Town, South Africa.
When I began my company, I literally walked door to door selling my first product and covered about half of the Cape Peninsula doing it, scouting clientele that was suited to my luxury and sometimes fun products.
I literally lost about 10 pounds/ 5 kilogrammes because of all the walking around and met some fabulous people in Cape Town.
I started my company producing ladies’ accessories and considered men’s accessories as well. Today WhiteSlashZA produces accessories and outerwear for babies, children, adult men and women of all walks of life.
The blog is a way in which to draw clientele with online purchases.
However, as a result of several of my products being replicated and sold to massive retail outlets without my consent, (Cape Union Mart and Hugo Boss ) who have yet to reimburse me , I have had to modify carefully what I upload and what I do not.
On the other hand, if my products have already been copied and sold by companies such as Hugo Boss and Cape Union Mart, then it must mean that my products and company has enormous promise to succeed.
The adage that “copycats” are simply proof of how much your products are respected and liked is not one that sits well with me.
I remember years ago, being told, that if I wanted to be great at something, I should study those that have excelled in that field- research them, understand them, imitate their behaviour and I would be able to succeed as they did.
One day while I was still in High School, I remember admiring a fellow student’s artwork and copied her painting at home. My mother was furious when she discovered it.
She told me- just be yourself, be an original and it will flow.
“Be yourself, everyone else is taken”.
Further to this, many small companies have had their products adopted by large retailers here in South Africa. Woolworths South Africa and Australia is notorious for this and has been sued several times for passing off products that are not their own.
I have no idea why Petrel41 likes my blog so much, she hasn’t told me yet.
And as my blogging is relatively new, I would hardly claim to be an expert at it.
My advice to bloggers is simply blog about what you like, blog about what you want in life, be real and accessible to everyday people and never fear success.
Further advice to bloggers, is use the amazing tools of wordpress editor and use the tags that match your blog to add to your exposure.
I don’t sit on the internet all day, everyday as I am busy putting a new collection together and finding a retail outlet to sell it from , amongst dealing with other activities that fill my day and so I have yet to nominate 10 of my favourite blogs on wordpress. But I will get down to it soon, I promise!!! Have an awesome day!

One of the main reasons I began to develop my knitting skills is because waiting in lines bores me immensely- especially when you don’t have a great book to read or an awesome conversation partner.
But the real reason I began to develop my knitting skills is because I had immense stress in my life and was trying to solve it through the courthouses on my own since I could not find any qualified lawyer to assist me in my matters.
I needed some fun in my life.
Exif_JPEG_420
And so I decided to create fun with my products. I designed original beach accessories since I love the beach and beachwear. I scouted the internet pages to see if my idea had been done before, and I found it hadn’t and so I had a ” Eureka!” moment. I had found an opening in the market and I was going to pursue it.
My mother was an expert knitter like her mother, and knitting is a past time in my family and has been handed down as a tradition. Most of my girl cousins knit as did their moms. My mother never taught me to knit. My mother bought me a ladybird “How to knit” book when I was about 8 years old and I learned to knit from that book.
Over the years of being involved in corporate business, i chucked knitting aside as an ” old-fashioned granny thing” and I have met many people who have the same attitude even today. I picked up knitting more seriously a few years ago, having forgotten entirely how to knit, by looking at tutorials on the internet and teaching myself.
My knitting has become a business to me and I am overwhelmed, in a great way, by the number of ideas I have developed and the enjoyment of my clients of my garments and accessories.
Once my business is more developed, I most certainly will not take any employee who expects me to teach them to knit. I want to see that the person I am hiring is success driven enough to have taught themselves to knit.
My style is entirely modern, I mostly do not use patterns and /or look at a pattern and adapt it to something entirely new.
I have great relations with all the stockists of my yarn which I enjoy and I frequent almost all the knitting and yarn stores in Cape Town. My clients have no idea how much time I spend looking for their exact requirements of colour and texture.
Listening and complying with my clients’ wants are extremely important to me because a happy, satisfied customer makes me happy always
People of all ages, culture and creeds buy from me all over Cape Town and my success is enormously gratifying to me. I have also had British and Zimbabwean clients purchase from me and many small business owners are clients of mine.
WhiteslashZA designs luxury items for children, babies, women and men in a range of products and a range of prices in wools, silks, alpaca, bamboo and cottons.
More recently, I discovered that it is a great relaxing past time for ADHD sufferers as it helps to keep you focused on a project and I have met ADHD patients who knit for pleasure and thoroughly enjoy its benefits to their lives.
Knitting gives you quiet time to yourself which everyone needs. It also helps to avoid unneccessary arguements and unneccessary conversation.Knitting avoids drama.
And for me, a day without unneccesary drama is HEAVEN.
Knitting is even recommended by doctors to patients with anger management issues with success!
Knitting gives you an opportunity to think, plan and strategise your next moves and to reply appropriately to anyone who may have upset you .
Knitting stimulates brain function because it is a numeric craft resulting in delaying senility and a healthy development of brain cells and function. Your knitting efforts stimulate left and right brain function lending itself to both logical and creative results.
Most importantly, your knitted products are a useful way of using your time and result in the creation of beautiful things which stimulate ocular function and on a basic level- the world needs morebeauty

A grandmother sat on her porch knitting three socks when someone walked by and asked, Why are you knitting three socks? The grandmother replied: Because my grandson said hes grown a foot since joining the Army.
A mother took her little boy to church. While in church the little boy said, Mommy, I have to pee. The mother said to the little boy, Its not appropriate to say the word pee in church. So, from now on whenever you have to pee just tell me that you have to whisper. The following Sunday, the little boy went to church with his father and during the service said to his father, Daddy, I have to whisper. The father looked at him and said, Okay, just whisper in my ear.
