Thank you for nominating WhiteSlashZA

Thank you to Petrel41 for nominating my blog for the Real Neat Blog award on 18 January 2020.

I started my blog about 2 months ago as I was looking for an avenue to promote my knitted products after registering my business in 2018 here in Cape Town, South Africa.

When I began my company, I literally walked door to door selling my first product and covered about half of the Cape Peninsula doing it, scouting clientele that was suited to my luxury and sometimes fun products.

I literally lost about 10 pounds/ 5 kilogrammes because of all the walking around and met some fabulous people in Cape Town.

I started my company producing ladies’ accessories and considered men’s accessories as well. Today WhiteSlashZA produces accessories and outerwear for babies, children, adult men and women of all walks of life.

The blog is a way in which to draw clientele with online purchases.

However, as a result of several of my products being replicated and sold to massive retail outlets without my consent, (Cape Union Mart and Hugo Boss ) who have yet to reimburse me , I have had to modify carefully what I upload and what I do not.

On the other hand, if my products have already been copied and sold by companies such as Hugo Boss and Cape Union Mart, then it must mean that my products and company has enormous promise to succeed.

The adage that “copycats” are simply proof of how much your products are respected and liked is not one that sits well with me.

I remember years ago, being told, that if I wanted to be great at something, I should study those that have excelled in that field- research them, understand them, imitate their behaviour and I would be able to succeed as they did.

One day while I was still in High School, I remember admiring a fellow student’s artwork and copied her painting at home. My mother was furious when she discovered it.

She told me- just be yourself, be an original and it will flow.

“Be yourself, everyone else is taken”.

Further to this, many small companies have had their products adopted by large retailers here in South Africa. Woolworths South Africa and Australia is notorious for this and has been sued several times for passing off products that are not their own.

I have no idea why Petrel41 likes my blog so much, she hasn’t told me yet.

And as my blogging is relatively new, I would hardly claim to be an expert at it.

My advice to bloggers is simply blog about what you like, blog about what you want in life, be real and accessible to everyday people and never fear success.

Further advice to bloggers, is use the amazing tools of wordpress editor and use the tags that match your blog to add to your exposure.

I don’t sit on the internet all day, everyday as I am busy putting a new collection together and finding a retail outlet to sell it from , amongst dealing with other activities that fill my day and so I have yet to nominate 10 of my favourite blogs on wordpress. But I will get down to it soon, I promise!!! Have an awesome day!

Overseas buyers can order on line via myself and please expect packaging and post to cost a little extra.

I run a small start up company for luxury knitted items using yarns that are primarily natural to South Africa and natural to the elements.
